DataKom’s £2m target achieved

Ambitious growth targets were achieved (and then some) after these telecommunications specialists revamped their digital marketing.

Background

Datakom is a well-renowned telecommunications provider, serving Wales and the South West.

Their combination of technical expertise and excellent customer service had seen them grow at an impressive rate since founding in 2007, with the majority of their business coming via word of mouth referrals.

This approach had seen them hit a turnover of £1.5 million in just seven years. 

Always looking to improve on this success, the company set the ambitious target of reaching the £2million mark within two years.

To do this, they realised they would have to take a more direct approach to their marketing. We were approached in 2015 to help make these targets a reality.

What we did

Our process began with thorough market research and profiling of their target customers, as well as conversations with the management team around their overall business strategy and the products they wanted to focus on.

Successful digital marketing comes about when an understanding of both these areas are aligned, allowing the message to come through in a way that reflects the brand.

Based on our findings, and our assessment of Datakom’s previous marketing activities, we carried out a broad range of digital marketing activities, including the following:

  • On-site SEO based on the audience insights our research had gained. We optimised the site to rank for these key words to help Datakom rank higher for their core services. 
  • A content marketing strategy in the form of thought leadership pieces for their industry, based around the key terms we knew would help gain higher search rankings.
  • PPC campaigns, focused on the core products Datakom wanted to push, and targeted to the exact audience that they wanted to focus on.

What happened next

They hit that £2m target and some. In fact revenue has nearly doubled year on year. 

Traffic to the website has increased by 50% year on year with 40% of this being organic traffic

This has resulted in a 4x increase in lead generation, with a marked improvement in the quality of enquiries, thanks to the right products being showcased to the right customers. 

Brand awareness and reputation received a massive boost, with our content marketing strategy helping to gain attention from The Guardian, BBC, Western Mail, Insider and more.
